Kanban Display

You can make sections display as trello-like kanban columns where each bullet in a list is a card. You can also do this for an entire file by adding style: kanban to the frontmatter, but to do it just for a section in a document, use the --- {.kanban} divider to create a section with a kanban style. Here’s a quick example:

This is useful for tracking projects, issues, tasks, etc., and seeing them in a more visual way. It keeps the markdown pretty standard (particularly if your whole doc is the kanban and you just add the style: kanban bit to the frontmatter).

kanban is a presentation choice rather than a kind of note, which is why it stays in style: instead of type:. See Page Styles and Types for the difference and for the other styles that ship with mbr.

This uses CSS columns and sometimes columns wrap despite being instructed not to.

Printing

On screen a board is one screenful tall (85vh) with columns that scroll sideways. Both of those drop cards on paper — anything below the fold is cut off, and any column past the width of the sheet is simply never printed. So print flattens the board to a single column: it reads as a run of headed lists rather than side-by-side columns, which is the right trade when the alternative is losing cards without any indication that they existed.
